This story is based on the Chicago Thorne rooms (a room in the
Chicago Museum of Art that has lots of little doll house rooms). In
this story there is a boy and a girl who find a coin that can shrink
them so that they can go into the Thorne rooms. The Thorne rooms take
them back in time. The coin leads them to a lot of adventure and fun.
There are three more books in the series which are mysteries. In these
books, the children continue to explore the worlds in the Thorne rooms.
There
is a book that Peter gave to me that shows all the rooms from the
museum. I can show you the rooms from the book if you read it.
These are pictures of some of the rooms from the museum.
Dragon
slippers is a fun but scary story. It is about a girl whose mother is a
popular embroiderer. The girl's dream is to one day own and embroidery
shop. Her mother and father die so she is sent to her aunt's house,
but her aunt is poor. Her aunt makes her go to a dragon's cave so a
knight will save and marry her, but she bargains with the dragon. The
dragon is too lazy to fight and she doesn't want to get eaten by the
dragon. They agree he would give her some of his hoard if she tells the
knight that she escaped. So, she left with a pair of slippers.
There are two more books in the series: Dragon Flight and Dragon Spear.
Written on the front of the book: "She wanted a dragon gold. She got a pair of slippers."
Rating: 8 owls (out of 10)
I have been reading lots of books too. Here's the list of my favorite books:
Ramona series (all of them!)
Fudge series (all those too!)
Little House series (all of them)
Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke
Caroline Series (American Girl)
Stuart Little by E.B. White
Uncle Wiggly's animal stories
Toys Go Out by Emily Jenkins
I am reading Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. It is the second one in the series. There is also Inkheart which is the first and Inkdeath which is the last. It is about a girl named Meggie whose father can read things out and in to books. This means that Meggie's father could say a person's name and a place in a sentence and the person would go into a book to that place. When Meggie was very young, her father got a book named Inkheart. He was reading it to her mother one night and suddenly three people came out of the book--a person named Capricorn, who is a leader of a group of evil people that are called the Fire raisers that light fires and burn down people's houses; Basta, a person with a very sharp knife; and Dustfinger, a fire dancer who can talk to fires and make them do what he says. Dustfinger is not evil. I do not know why he came into our world too.
Meggie's mother, Teresa, disappeared into the book. The rule of coming in and going out is that someone has to go to the other world in order for someone from that world to come here. Meggie was only three when this happened so she didn't remember, but when Dustfinger arrives one rainy night, and tells her the story, her whole life changes.
Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire's parents died in a fire that burned down their house. They got sent to Count Olaf, a nasty man that wants to get their fortune that their parents left for Violet when she got of age. Mr. Poe, the banker who is in charge of their fortune, doesn't believe that Count Olaf is a nasty man. Other than Mr. Poe, their next door neighbor, a judge, is the only kind person they have got. When Count Olaf makes a show The Marvelous Marriage and the evil scheme along with it, the Baudelaires only got each other.
This book is a very scary book but very fun and loving too. If you liked the Percy Jackson series, then you will like this series.
